SANTA ANA, Calif., December 2, 2008 – Atek, Inc., a manufacturer of consumer technology products, today announced the introduction of the Logio Secure Password Organizer.
The battery-powered electronic device with an LCD display enables password-weary computer users to store private login and other information, protect it with a single master passcode, and carry it with them wherever they go.
According to Atek’s president, Dan Rothman, password management is a nearly universal problem. “If you ask ten people how they manage their passwords, the first thing you’ll hear from at least nine of them is a sigh or a groan. Very few people have password management under control – it’s an unresolved irritant and concern. They typically say they either use the same passwords for many websites, write down passwords on paper, store them in an unprotected computer file, or use hard-to-guess passwords that they constantly forget. People are well aware that none of those methods is both secure and convenient, but they don’t feel they have good alternatives.”
Mr. Rothman explained that Atek’s market research determined that although many password management software programs and biometric hardware devices exist, people generally do not fully trust leaving their most sensitive data on software or hardware that is connected to the internet. Furthermore, the need for the software or hardware to be installed on multiple computers in multiple locations in order to have the passwords available whenever needed is not always feasible or affordable.
Atek addressed these concerns by developing a secure handheld device that password-burdened people can easily carry with them at all times and never connect to a computer. Users create their own master passcode, can vary its length, and can change it whenever they want.
The innovative Logio, which is about 1/8 inch thick and can be carried in a purse, pocket, or wallet, features a three-line display for website name or address, user ID, and password. Quick-entry buttons on the flat membrane keypad are optimized for Web-related use and include such entries as www, http, .com, .net, and .org. Users can also store up to three favored user IDs for quick-entry when inputting new website logins on their Logio.
According to Mr. Rothman, “With the Logio, you can protect your online accounts by using a unique and impossible-to-guess password, containing random combinations of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters, for each of your website logins since you no longer need to memorize those passwords. As an added convenience, the Logio can generate random passwords for you.”
The Logio can store 200 or more records, including website and desktop login information, and it will not lose data even if its user-replaceable coin cell battery is depleted. Atek suggests using the organizer to store all kinds of personal information, such as credit card numbers, ATM and debit card pin codes, driver’s license and passport numbers, a spouse’s or child’s social security number, and other things like frequent flyer program numbers, so that all such information is available in one place at all times.
Mr. Rothman emphasized the value of the Logio for both personal and work use. “Many corporate IT departments impose desktop password reset requirements on employees without providing a method for managing those periodically changing passwords. As a result, employees often forget passwords or store them insecurely. The Logio is a simple, low cost, and highly effective way for reducing both employee time wasted on password recovery and the burden placed on corporate help desks. It also eradicates the unwise habit of putting password-laden sticky notes on monitor frames and cubicle walls or under mouse pads.”
Initially available in both black and white versions, Logio features include auto-off to save battery power and reduce intrusion vulnerability, useful navigation and search functions, audible button feedback, optional lost & found information on the master passcode screen, and a special characters button for inputting symbols and punctuation marks. A neck lanyard and protective storage sleeve are included with the product.
The Logio Secure Password Organizer is available directly from Atek (www.atek.com, 1-888-889-9990) as well as from various retail and online stores. Suggested retail price is $29.95.
