Atek Electronics Inc. Introduces
Tote-Remote for Laptop Presentations
--User-friendly remote control utilizes superior RF technology --

TUSTIN, Calif., April 30, 2002 -- Atek Electronics Inc., an innovative developer of laptop and PDA accessories, announced today that it has introduced the Tote-Remote remote control for laptop computer presentations.

The Tote-Remote, which sports a unique whale's tooth shape and functions as both a remote control and a laser pointer, helps make laptop computer presentations easier and more productive. Atek found through consumer research that many presenters who use a laptop computer and a projector waste considerable time and energy walking to, or reaching for, the laptop computer to change screens. Other presenters use remote controls but are distracted by complicated buttons and often eventually abandon using the remote control. The Tote-Remote, which has only three buttons, allows presenters to advance or reverse screens from up to thirty feet away. And the presenter can walk freely virtually anywhere within this thirty-foot range without worrying about the position of large objects and people in the room, because rather than infrared technology, the Tote-Remote utilizes superior RF technology that does not require unobstructed line-of-sight to the laptop.
"We did not invent the presentation remote control, but we made it more user-friendly and affordable without sacrificing functionality," says Dan Rothman, vice president and general manager of Atek Electronics. "Most other remote controls are heavy on complexity that most people don't want and light on functionality that most people need. The beauty of the Tote-Remote is that it is small, light weight, and simple to use, yet it provides the superior versatility of RF technology."
The Tote-Remote, which works on PCs and Macs with USB ports, has three buttons: one for laser pointing, one for stopping and starting presentations, and a "wheel button" that has two functions - in standard mode it controls page up/down (forward/back), and in scroll mode it scrolls a cursor up and down. The Tote-Remote is ideally suited for mobile professionals because the remote control measures only 4-3/4" long, averages about 1" wide over its curved length, and weighs only one ounce, and the RF receiver is a tiny 2-1/2" long USB cable-free "dongle" that plugs directly into a USB port or hub. Both the remote control and the receiver are easily stored in the padded travel pouch that is included with the product. With the special considerations of its mobile professional customers in mind, Atek even designed a button sequence that disables the buttons to prevent accidental battery drain while the Tote-Remote is stored for travel.

The Tote-Remote is available directly from Atek (www.atek.com, 1-888-889-9990) as well as from many major retail and online stores such as CDW, Insight, and Mobile Planet. Suggested retail price is $79.95.
